Black Lives Matter to the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law

With sadness, but also with determination and resolve, the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law joins Americans of conscience in reiterating that Black Lives Matter.

The recent events in Minneapolis and elsewhere are the antithesis of the Center’s core purpose, which is to advance equal justice, fairness, dignity, and respect. But while the national focus is on police brutality, we know that these episodes are a mere speck in the centuries-old plagues of racism and of violence against Black Americans, historical horrors that will surely continue unless we commit to change.

We are proud that Black Women Lawyers of Los Angeles (“BWL”) co-founded the Center. We are also proud of our diverse staff, clientele, and supporters. The Center stands strongly in solidarity with BWL and so many others supporting the protests and demands for change with respect to the continued systemic and insidious treatment of Black Americans.

Each of us must make our own choice about how to create tangible change that will promote racial equality. Please join the Center in taking action and consider supporting the following organizations:

Black Lives Matter

NAACP Legal Defense Fund

Black Women Lawyers of LA Foundation Scholarship Fund

Sincerely,
Board of Directors and Staff Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law
