Cy Pres Awards at the Buhai Center

When residual funds remain after a class action, probate, or similar case, courts may direct them to nonprofit organizations under California’s Code of Civil Procedure § 384. This process, known as cy pres (from the French for “as near as possible”), ensures that funds serve a purpose closely aligned with the interests of the class action case.

The Buhai Center has been a trusted provider of free family law services in Los Angeles County for decades, annually serving hundreds of individuals facing urgent legal needs. By choosing the Buhai Center as your cy pres beneficiary, courts and donors will make an immediate, direct investment in the safety and stability of low-income survivors of domestic violence and other individuals facing family law crises.

Your support enables us to provide life-changing legal services and advance financial stability, housing security, and public health in our community—empowering our clients to move forward with dignity and security.

Direct your cy pres award to the Buhai Center and make a lasting impact.
