How to Apply

You can apply for legal help anytime using our online application. If you cannot use the online application, call our New Client Line at (213) 388-7515, Monday through Thursday, 10:30 am–12:30 pm.

Online Application

The application asks questions to determine if you qualify for a free legal consultation. We will ask about:

Your Income

– You will need to provide information about how much you receive monthly.
  • Employment or self-employment income
  • Child or spousal support payments
  • Social Security benefits
  • Public assistance or other government benefits
  • Any other sources of income

Your Household

– You will need to provide information about your household including:
  • The number of people who live with you and that you financially support (including yourself)

Your Legal Problem

We will ask about the type of case for which you need assistance.

Important — Application Length:

You cannot save the application to finish later. Please start it when you have time to complete it. This application can take 10–15 minutes or more to complete.

Next Steps

After you finish your application, we will review it and email you within two business days to let you know if we can offer a legal consultation.

The Buhai Center can provide help in all languages. If your main language is not English or Spanish, please call (213) 388-7515 for help.

How to Apply — Hearing-Impaired Individuals

If you are hearing impaired and unable to access the online application, please email intake@hbcfl.org to provide us with a safe email address at which we may contact you. A safe email address is one that only you can access and where it is safe for you to receive messages from Buhai Center staff. This option is only for hearing-impaired individuals.

Notice — You May Not Get an Appointment

Not everyone who applies will get an appointment. Filling out the application or phone screening does not guarantee an appointment or that the Buhai Center will take your case.
